Ever feel like taking a break in a beautiful spot, surrounded by nature? That’s just what the new “barden” in Mountain View Community Garden was created for.
This elevated planting bed alongside Memorial Avenue is a collaboration between EcoScape (who built and installed the bar), Blue Ridge Hydroponics (who provided amazing soil), Greenbrier Nurseries (who provided the delicious plants), and LEAP. There’s a wooden ledge on four sides (perfect for eating a little lunch or resting your elbows). In the center are the cutest lettuces and other greens, plus violets and herbs. It’s a place to gather, hang out, relax, and a place where food is growing — truly a bar and garden combo!
All are welcome to enjoy this space. Stools will be coming soon. LEAP’s Community Gardens are places for members to grow and for the community to experience. You’re encouraged to sample the leaves and herbs in the barden’s communal growing spaces. But remember not to pick any food from members’ growing beds.
As an extra thank you to LEAP members and supporters, Blue Ridge Hydroponics is offering 10 percent off to anyone who shops at their new(ish) store on Apperson Road. Stop by and check out their great soil and other planting supplies. If purchasing online, use code LEAP10. In person, just let the checkout folks know you’re with LEAP!
And make sure to enjoy this latest addition to Mountain View Community Garden.
