Eat Our Yard!

Have you seen our new growing space at The LEAP Hub?

A few weeks ago, Townside Gardens (a LEAP sponsor, thank you!) dug in a lovely design of native plants. And LEAP’s Community Gardens Manager built three raised growing beds. These not only beautify our front “yard,” but will serve as a way to connect the West End community to a practice of growing food, even in small places.

Among the plants, find a pathway of stepping stones created by kids at the West End Farmers Market during Harvest Fest, held at the end of October. (Thanks to artist Jane Gabrielle for leading this activity through the Roanoke Arts Commission’s Arts Connect Neighbors program.) This spring, look for seasonal veggies to arrive in the raised beds and more plants to fill out the space.

Anytime we can turn grass into food for people and pollinators, it's a good day. Stop by soon to check out what we've got growing!
