Sponsor Spotlight: Cox Communications

January 31, 2023

Cox Communications is proud to be a sponsor of Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP).

As the largest private broadband company in America, Cox is committed to creating meaningful moments of human connection through technology. We’re also on a mission to empower 34 million people to live more prosperous lives by 2034, including our friends, neighbors, and customers in Roanoke — a market we’ve served for more than 45 years.

LEAP’s impactful work in Roanoke exemplifies Cox’s values of social equity, good health and environmental sustainability. Cox is proud to support efforts that not only close the food access gap in our community, but also promote climate-friendly practices through highly localized and sustainable agriculture. Ensuring that Roanokers are well-fed by healthy food is a win/win.

Good stewardship of the environment is key to building a better future for the next generation. LEAP demonstrates that small steps can lead to big impacts for our planet and our communities, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to support their work.

But Cox also prioritizes boots-on-the-ground sustainability of its own. In Roanoke, we spearheaded a recycling program in partnership with the county that captures 1,800 cubic yards of material per month! You can find our recycling trailers (free for county resident use) in the parking lot at our office on Fallowater Lane. Additionally, Cox is proud to support Sustainable Roanoke, which creates opportunities to recycle a broad range of materials not accepted by other programs.

We also supported the development of the Roanoke Kiwanis Club’s new Nature Park in northwest Roanoke, a keystone feature of the group’s Horton’s Branch Watershed Improvement Project. And, in 2022, as a Cox Conserves Hero, Roanoker Freeda Cathcart earned a $5,000 grant for the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

Cox is proud of the impact we’re making — for people, for equity, and for the environment — in Roanoke. But we’re also mindful that we’re not doing it alone! Building a better future is a group project, and partners like LEAP are essential to our continued progress.
