Complicated food systems work requires stakeholders in health care, agriculture, economic development, education, conservation, and more to come together. LEAP is leading community conversations on a variety of topics, in search of solutions that create more resiliency, more prosperity, and more sustainability for our region.

The Roanoke Foodshed Network (RFN) was formed in 2020 as a way to build community and capacity between diverse partners working to address food systems change in the Roanoke region. The goals of this network have grown out of a decade of conversations with farmers, planners, and local food advocates.
LEAP and community partners work together to plan, implement, and evaluate a Produce Prescription program called Southwest Produce Rx. The referral-based, 6-month program focuses on patients with diet-related health risks. SWPRx includes nutrition classes, in-class free fruits and vegetables, and Fresh Produce Bucks to purchase fresh produce at participating outlets, including area farmers markets, farm stands, and local grocers.

The LEAP Hub is in a renovated 1930s-era building in the West End, a neighborhood where we have been working for more than a decade. The LEAP Hub houses our nonprofit's offices, a food distribution center, light food processing kitchen, and a new community space. An expanded West End Farmers Market operates at the site. The LEAP Community Store opened in 2024, offering another way for the community to access fresh fruits and vegetables. LEAP is grateful to grow in this historic neighborhood.
LEAP is all about bringing our local food community together! Throughout the year, we host a variety of events, including community gatherings, market events, fundraisers, and more! Stay tuned and join us at one of our upcoming events!
