We’re truly thankful for all your positive energy and support at the Grand Opening of The Kitchen on April 26th. Now that The Kitchen passed its health inspection, we’re ready to get a cookin’ and help food entrepreneurs open or expand their food businesses. If you want to read more about The Kitchen, check out our website. The Mobile Market opens May 17th 
The Mobile Market will soon be back on the road serving Roanoke with fresh fruits and vegetables. We’ve added 4 stops this year, so you can find us at 9 locations weekly focused mainly on Northwest and Southeast Roanoke. Another very exciting development is that the LEAP Mobile Market is now headquartered at the Goodwill Industries of the Valleys Jobs Campus on Melrose Ave. This is going to be a great partnership and we love the neighborhood. Special thanks to Goodwill for allowing us to use a space in their facility that we can truly grow into!

Welcome LEAP’s new Mobile Market Manager!
After a competitive hiring process, we’d like to welcome Alex Stewart to the LEAP team!

Alex grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  Soon after graduating with a B.A. in English, he moved to New York City in order to pursue a career in music.  As is the case with most aspiring musicians, Alex quickly found himself in the field of manual labor, culminating in several years working in urban and rooftop gardening in Manhattan and Brooklyn.  Alex is a recent addition to the Roanoke community after a brief stint back in Washington, where he worked in elementary education.  He is deeply excited to bring his love of plants to the LEAP team, and can’t wait to get started with the Mobile Market!

Knowledgeable, affable, and committed to our mission, Alex is a great fit for LEAP and we’re excited to see him and Sam bring the Mobile Market to new heights. Be sure to say “hello” when you see him out on the road selling fresh produce around the city, or at the Grandin market.   This season, Sam and Alex will split their Saturdays being the on-site manager of the Grandin Village Community Market.

We’ve had so many exciting things going on in the LEAP world this spring! So many, in fact, that we’ve had to put a hold on our regular newsletter recipes to save space for exciting current events. Rest assured that once we’re humming along in the growing season, we’ll get back to offering you a fun, seasonal recipe to make with the fantastic prouducts you can get at our markets.

For now, check out our Seasonal Availability Chart and get excited about local vegetables as well as all the handmade goods from local artisans. Keep your eye on the tree fruits this year. The cold spell a few weeks ago wreaked havoc on stone fruits (peaches, plums, etc), and this looks to be a tough year for local orchardists.
