Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP) is a 501c3 non-profit based in Roanoke City. 

LEAP nurtures our food community to create an equitable food and farming system which prioritizes health and abundance. We do this by supporting community initiatives, markets, farms, and farmers.

We are a service organization centered in the Roanoke region. We are committed to listening and responding to the ever-changing needs, challenges, and opportunities of our food community. Our approach recognizes individual and community dignity. LEAP works collaboratively with community partners, farmers, food producers, and consumers throughout Roanoke City and the Roanoke Valley. LEAP’s Food Hub Team works to create economically viable market outlets for local farmers and food producers and to efficiently connect consumers to local food (current programs include LEAP Farm Share, West End Farmers Market, Grandin Village Farmers Market, and farmer support services). LEAP’s Food Access Team works alongside community members and partners to listen to and co-create ways to address neighborhood-specific and community-wide challenges with inequitable access to food (current programs include LEAP Kitchen, LEAP Mobile Market, Community Gardens, Healthy Food Incentives). Farm Share Coordinator

Position Description

The Farm Share Coordinator will be responsible for handling the day to day logistics of our aggregated Farm Share including member communications, receiving food orders, running an efficient packing day, ensuring top food safety and quality, and coordinating/running pick up sites. The Farm Share Coordinator will work with the Food Hub team to increase sales and profitability of LEAP’s year-round Farm Share and will work with the Food Access team to use the Farm Share to expand equitable access to food. You must be detail-oriented, community centered, committed to food justice and equity, and communicate with transparency and clarity. This position reports to the Food Hub Manager. 


  • Establish and maintain strong, trusting relationships with Farm Share members, farmers, partner organizations and businesses. Maintain clear and consistent lines of communication.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service standards throughout the Farm Share program and make sure such standards are met throughout the program.
  • Market and grow the Farm Share to new members, develop new partnerships with local businesses and organizations to expand access to the Farm Share, and promote the farm share and its impact to the broader community. 
  • Keep accurate and detailed financial and data collection records. Work with the Financial Manager to ensure accurate and timely accounts receivable and payable for the Farm Share.
  • Maintain and refine operational systems and plans to receive, aggregate, and distribute food for the Farm Share and ensure that these plans are sustainable, cost effective, safe, and align with LEAP’s strategic plan and budgets.
  • Communicate with Farm Share members in an engaging, non-judgmental, and informative way about food and farming including sharing information, stories, recipes, and educational opportunities for Farm Share members to learn about and to participate in the regional food system more fully. 
  • Work with the Food Hub Team and Support Team to collect customer feedback on a regular basis and share relevant feedback. Analyze data to provide deeper insights about and how to improve programs and services to meet community need, program goals, and LEAP’s mission.
  • Work with the Food Hub team to co-create, plan, implement, evaluate, and refine programs and partnerships to improve the Farm Share, increase equitable access to Farm Share, and support economically viable farm and food-based businesses. 
  • Help identify funding strategies and opportunities to support the important work of LEAP and community partners.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  •  Experience with customer service, sales, food distribution, food sales, or other related areas. 
  • A natural relationship builder- you empathize with others. You are people- and community-centered.
  • Self-starter motivation with strong organizational and time management skills – you make things happen!
  • The ability to thrive in a variable and demanding environment – you are solutions oriented and highly adaptable.
  • Experience and comfort with computers, Microsoft Office products, databases, excel, email, and social media platforms.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work comfortably outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • A passion for community, local food, farming, and equity. 

Additional Information/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • This position is hourly, year-round, about 20 hours per week
  • The candidate must be available to work some weekday evenings and be responsive to text/email on weekends.
  • Position will be housed at LEAP’s Food Hub in NE Roanoke, some remote work is allowable.  
  • Clean driving record, ability to drive large vehicles (CDL not needed)
  • Hourly rate $12-$15/hr depending on experience
