Garden Registration is LIVE!

Feb 19, 2020 by

As of 2020, LEAP (Local Environmental Agriculture Project) has taken over management of the gardens as Roanoke Community Garden Association (RCGA), sadly, has dissolved. We’re excited to get our hands dirty and help the gardens flourish! As of today, registration is officially LIVE for 2020 garden plots! Read on for more information, and don’t hesitate to email gardens@leapforlocalfood.org if you have any questions.

Click here for the link to LEAP’s garden registration. Registration is for one plot, so if you’d like multiple plots, please contact us directly. Plots at all gardens are $30 each for the entire growing season. You must both complete the registration and submit payment in order to have your plot reserved. If $30 is beyond your budget, scholarships are available. Please contact us directly and we will work with you. Options for submitting payment are as follows:

  • Online at paypal.me/LEAPVA
  • Mail a check (made payable to LEAP) to PO Box 3249, Roanoke VA 24015
  • Drop off cash at LEAP’s office (between 9:00-5:00 on weekdays), 2nd floor of Villa Heights, 2750 Hoover St NW, Roanoke VA 24017. Please make sure to give the payment directly to a LEAP staff person; don’t leave it unattended in the building.
  • Drop off cash or check at the West End Farmers Market, every Tuesday from 3 – 6 pm. Connie, the market manager, will accept your payment.

LEAP is offering garden plots at the same 4 gardens in Roanoke City that were available last year (click here to learn more about each garden). You will be asked in the registration to list your preferred garden. Plots will be assigned in the order for which they were registered, with the exception of those who held plots in 2019. If you gardened in 2019, you get priority on your same plot. If you want to reserve your same plot, the deadline to register is March 15. The rest of the plots will be assigned starting April 1, with the gardens officially opening April 15. Please note that space is limited at the gardens. Your first choice may not be available, depending on demand. If this is the case, you will have the opportunity to choose another location.

We’ve left an open space in the registration for comments. If you have any feedback or comments, or have a special circumstance, please let us know in the comments section of your registration.

Thanks for your patience as LEAP takes on this new and exciting responsibility with our community. Our goal, in 2020, will be to offer vibrant garden space in much the same way as previous years. The policies and opportunities will be similar to previous years, and we’ll release more information as it becomes available. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or thoughts to gardens@leapforlocalfood.org or 540-632-1360.
