Excited for the Big Lick Cocktail Classic?

Our annual fundraiser is back, and you won’t want to miss it this year. We’ve partnered with Big Lick Entertainment on this event offering craft cocktails dreamed up by local bars and restaurants, Mardi Gras themed snacks, live music, and much more at the Patrick Henry Ballroom. Ticket sales support LEAP and our 2016 efforts on the Community Kitchen, Mobile Market, and more. You can buy tickets here, and learn more about the event on our Facebook page. See you on the 20th!

See you at Big Lick SOUP!

LEAP was selected to present at the upcoming Big Lick SOUP (Supporting Outstanding Urban Projects). This is a community driven micro-grant competition hosted at Soaring Ridge Brewery, on February 11th, 6-8pm. For a suggested $10 donation, you can come enjoy a night of delicious soup, snacks, and cold beverages (beer not included).

At SOUP, you’ll hear four presentations by community development focused projects, eat some soup, and place your vote for which project receives the micro-grant. All money raised goes to the project with the most votes.

LEAP will present on our Mobile Market Retrofit project (raising funds to improve our bus) which will allow us to serve more stops and get more healthy food into low-access communities. With the funds, we plan to install a shade awning and build interior and exterior shelving.

We can’t do this without your help! Mark your calendars, eat delicious soup and support LEAP (vote for our project!). The last Big Lick SOUP winner was given over $2,000!

The Community Kitchen is coming along wonderfully!  They’re hanging drywall as we speak and the floors and ceilings will be finished next week. After that, we’ll focus on installing equipment! If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a tenant of our kitchen and food business incubator, email us at sam@leapforlocalfood.org/leap to learn more. Target opening date late March 2016.

We’ve got a new vendor at the West End Community Market! Fat Cat Baked Goodies is a new business in Roanoke, having recently moved from Georgia. They produce tasty vegan baked goods, including sweets, focaccia, and the occasional savory pastry. If you’re having a hard time choosing, I suggest you go with the peach handpie! Available every Tuesday at the West End.
