Happy Holidays!

We miss seeing our friends, customers, farmers, and food producers every week at the markets, in The Kitchen, and on the road with the Mobile Market. But there are still plenty of opportunities to visit us and get your fill of fresh, local foods.

The Grandin Village Winter Market has expanded to include monthly winter dates. Mark your calendars for the next one, December 17th from 10:00-2:00 indoors at CoLab (the building just below the Grandin market) where you will see many of your favorite market vendors. Stop by, pick up some local foods for your holiday festivities, and say hello!

The West End Community Market is still happening year-round on Tuesdays from 3-6pm. From January to March, we are helping our regular farmers take a much needed break and we’re selling the produce for them! Think of it as a Mobile Market location, with a few extra vendors alongside us selling baked goods and more. Same great products from many of the same West End vendors, just consolidated! As always, we’ll accept and double SNAP up to $30.

It’s easy to keep supporting local food even when you shop on Amazon. Click on the image above to choose LEAP (Local Environmental Agriculture Project) through Amazon Smile. You’ll see below the search bar that you’re supporting LEAP, and you can do your shopping like normal. Amazon will donate a portion of the proceeds!

Check out the LEAP Christmas Cookie Prep and Swap!

If you love making Christmas cookies but don’t have the equipment (or can’t handle the mess it makes in your house), join us at The Kitchen for a free Open House on Sunday the 18th from 2-5pm! Just bring your ingredients… we’ve got the cookie sheets, mixers, ovens, and more. And when you’re done, you can swap with other folks so you have a beautiful assortment! This event will be kid-friendly with a sugar cookie decorating station. Check out the event on Facebook!

There’s still room in LEAP’s Food Business StartUp

We still have a few spaces available for our Food Business StartUp classes, happening in January in partnership with the Roanoke Small Business Development Center. Do you have a great product and want to learn more about turning it into a business? The classes, on Thursday evenings, are free and open to the public (please RSVP) and cover topics like business planning, marketing, food safety and regulation, and finances. Read more and RSVP on our website.

Applications are still being accepted for our StartUp Scholarships as well. Designed for entrepreneurs ready to launch their business but want additional support, the StartUp Scholarship includes extra one-on-one consulting and free rent in The Kitchen for up to 20 hours. Applications are free to submit, can be filled out on the bottom of the page here, and are due December 16th.

Got New Years Eve Plans?

LEAP is very excited to be a part of the Big Lick Entertainment Downtown Countdown this year. If you’re looking for something to do on New Year’s Eve, this unique downtown Roanoke event is sure to be outstanding. Proceeds from the event will support LEAP, specifically our planned retrofit of our new, improved Mobile Market vehicle. There will be great music, free access to the Roanoke Pinball Museum, and the “Star Rise”, projecting the Roanoke Star on Center in the Square to ring in 2017!
